| If you were to use an adjective, how would you describe sin?
I think of the word, "delicious" sometimes, in reference to sin. For example, today at work, my coworker and I experienced an issue with another coworker of ours who is difficult to work with. She made a comment/remark at me that was unnecessary and I guess rubbed my pride the wrong way. Once out of earshot, I was inclined to say something to my coworker about that comment and to vent a little. There was this nanosecond that existed where something briefly told me, "No this is gossip!" Within that quick moment I think it also flashed through my mind the taste of "letting her have it" and just indulging in my one moment rant to sorta "justify" the "unrighteousness" I felt and had just experienced. And I gave in. As I said, "Did you just hear what she said?! Omigosh, she is so hard to work with!" to my coworker, I felt it to be somewhat resembling the same kind of feeling you get when taking that first bite out of this big, calorie and fat filled piece of milk chocolate. You know in the back of your mind that you shouldn't be indulging in it, but you just give in and bite, taste, and eat.
It reminds me of the first act of sin that was committed by Eve. In Genesis 3 it writes that Eve saw that the fruit was pleasing to the eye and good for food. This act of obedience was so delicious because it was right there for the taking and it soothed the sinful pride of wanting to satisfy the immediate desire, the opportunity to be first and to be significant, the moment where you feel power and have control, to exalt yourself and eat that juicy fruit named sin that you can taste in your mouth even before eating.
I find it interesting also how acts of sin can even be compared with a human behavior like eating. So eating can be indulgence (when you eat not because of hunger) and sin is also indulgence–indulging and exalting the self and choosing to disobey the command and word of God.
